Scanning a business card
How the camera scan works, what is read from the card and what to do when a card is not read.

How to scan
Point the camera at a business card, or pick an existing photo. Followbooth reads the name, company, phone, email and website. Check the result, fix a field if needed and save the lead.
In the iPhone app the phone reads the card at once and the form opens immediately. The server completes the details in the background.
In the browser, the photo goes to the server for recognition, so reading a card needs a connection.
What is read
Printed text on the card: name, company, job title, phone, email and website. Printed name badges work too, because the name and company on them are printed text.
Followbooth does not read the barcode or QR code on a visitor badge and does not connect to organizers' systems.
When the card is not read well
- Tap a line from the card and choose where it goes: name, company or job title.
- Check the name. The phone can lose Czech and Polish letters. The server refines the name once there is a connection.
- If the photo cannot be read, tap Enter by hand and type the details.
Voice note
Hold the button to record a voice note about the conversation, or type a short note. The note stays with the lead. A spoken note is transcribed and saved with the lead. On the Free plan the recording is kept as audio, and the review screen offers Transcribe the voice note when you want the text.
Company brief and grade
Each lead gets a short company brief, a grade A, B or C and a suggested way to open the call. They are made on the server, so they appear once the lead has reached it. Call the A leads first. Machine-read and machine-made data can be wrong, so check it before you rely on it.
Questions
Questions
Does a failed read use one of my 10 free scans?
No. On the Free plan a recognition is counted when it is requested and given back when the read fails.
